I drive a car so I have to have insurance. I have a home. Right now, the bank really owns the home so I have to have insurance, but if I didn't have a mortgage, I'd still want insurance to protect my investment. If I own a business, I'd want to insure the business and equipment to protect my investment. Why wouldn't you want to protect your biggest investment ... you? Freak accidents do happen and a bill for a broken ankle from sliding on ice in the winter could be catastrophic for you without insurance. And if you don't need it for, say 15 years, the money you put in helps keep the costs lower for maybe 10 other people or more and costs are lower for you when you do decide you really need it. And frankly, it's the right thing, if not for your piece of mind, for your family's.
