Movable Type 4.0 launched!

Movable Type 4.0 has launched. With it comes a whole new fresh design behind the interface, the open source factor of the it, and just overall re-thinking of blogging to community environment. This version has OpenID implemented and a lot of other features that is definitely interesting. Seeing the posting by Anil (whom is coming to ConvergeSouth this year) made me excited but very hesitant at the same time. The last major upgrade blew away many of my readers’ comments and I’m not sure if I want to take that chance again since everything seems fine and dandy on MT3. I suppose I’ll let it soak for a while before I make the jump since there’s a lot of custom templating that I don’t want to lose unless we absolutely have to at some point (or I get around to having some fabu designer do something fancy pants for me).

  • Hi, sorry you had some troubles with your last major upgrade! But we’ve done some extensive testing on the new upgrade system, and I think you’ll find moving to 4.0 to be a great experience.
MT4 should work with your templates out of the box unless you’re using some unusual plugins to generate them. And of course MT4 has really nice backup and restore tools built in, so at least you don’t have to worry about losing your data again. 🙂 Looking forward to meeting you at Converge South.
