testdisklogo-clear-100.gif TestDisk is a open source data recovery tool that is fortunately supported by many many operating systems. In fact, it supports BSD, Windows, DOS, MacOSX, and linux. You really can’t get any better than that for a tool.
What it does: it checks the partition tables and sectors and rebuilds them in necessary or recovers deleted partitions. It also fixes boot sector errors, and fixes MFT and FAT tables. If you happened to kill your ext2/ext3 superblock, no problemo. TestDisk will try to recover it for you.
Now, I don’t wish it upon anyone to have to use this tool at all. But don’t you feel better that there is something like this out there in case something ever happens? I sure do.
