Disabling Scan Disk at startup

One of the most annoying things about Windows is when it crashes, it automatically assumes that you’re the one that screwed it up and initiates a scan disk on the reboot. All the time. So annoying. CMC provides a howto registry hack to change this:

  1. Go to the start button and go to Run and type: regedit
  2. Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/SessionManager
  3. If there is no value called AutoChkTimeOut, then create a DWORD value called that. Or else edit the existing version.
Change the value to 0 where 0 is the amount of seconds it takes for it to time out. If you set the value to 0, then that disables the check.
You’ll probably have to reboot for it to take effect. But this should kill Scan Disk on reboot. Oh, the joy.
