“If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.”

Just a crazy thought, but a friend’s mom used to say, “”If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.” Strangely enough, that is very true considering historically, men have always dominated places of power. With religion as well as politics. Just look at the world and the people’s titles for the top dog: Emperor, King, Pope.
Now imagine if men could get pregnant. You seriously think that people would be as draconian about banning abortion procedures? I doubt it. It takes two to make a baby. But only one bears the physical pain of labor. The nine months of hormonal fluctuations that could literally drive any man insane (and if you’re ever around any woman with PMS and you think that’s bad, the imbalance during pregnancy usually accounts for a bit more mood swings).
When it comes right down to it, the woman really should have all the power to call the shots. So it’s definitely strange when in the 5-4 ruling by the Supreme Court, the only woman justice (Justice Ginsburg) sides on the rights to the abortion procedure while the five in majority for the ban are all men.

  • All this coming from a MAN who has never been pregnant nor has had a wife that has gone through a pregnancy.
“Abortion” is for the people who enter into a sexual relationship without using their brain. Maybe 1 out of 1,000 actually have medical merit.
Abstinence is 100% effective against the PLAGUE of PREGNANCY!
Now don’t go off on the rape victims. I agree that may be an extenuating circumstance… but again… RAPE is NOT the #1 reason for unwanted pregnancies… STUPIDITY is.

  • Yeah, but I’ve seen pregnancy. You ever volunteer at a hospital and work in maternity? okkkay then. I guess you’ve never had some hormones raging women after you. :p
All amusement aside, you’ve never been pregnant either.
And I can guarantee that if men did get pregnant, it would definitely be different. The greatest xample is King Henry. He didn’t like what the Pope was doing, so he started his own church. You think that men wouldn’t break out of that? I seriously doubt it.
The problem here? You’re focusing on pregnancy. You fail to realize that I’m not supporting abortion in itself. I’m supporting the decision for a woman to choose. If a woman chooses “life”, hey… by all means. I hope the baby is safe, and the parents take care of them.
But the perspective is that you don’t go through labor, you don’t get to choose.
Just face is ratchet, your wife is your boss and is your better half. You’re only a pale glimmer in her radiance as all men are with their women. 😉

  • I agree to an extent– but I also feel that the abortion debate is equal to the idea that everyone must be born-again conservative Christians and agree to live by those standards (at least in principle because we all know people are not saints) even though we live in a country where we’re not required to share the same religion. Yes, I’m a VERY firm believer in separation of church and state.
I’m a mother AND I’m pro-choice. Regardless of how a woman ends up pregnant, it should be up to her to decide to go through pregnancy or not. For medical or non-medical reasons- it is a huge decision that in this day and age there are safe options for.
It is not an easy decision to make but it is one that every woman should have the right to choose.
