FBI Virtual Case File replacement facing money issues

Are we surprised? Really? Is anyone?
The Sentinel system is being built by Lockheed Martin in four phases and is costing taxpayers $425 million. This is after wasting $170 million on Virtual Case File that went nowhere. Now, this current system is due to be scheduled for completion in 2009, and they’re already facing funding issues. This phase of the project, the FBI asked for $150 million yet, only $100 million has been approved.
Everyone that has done any budgeting knows that budgets asked are rarely the exact figure and are often above the required minimum. So will Sentinel need or hurt from this lack of funding? We think not. Of course, we believe the system itself could have been built for cheaper. Wonder who’s lining whose pockets.
