Clonetool

Need we say more? Only for MacOSX.

Clonetool is a Hard Disk Cloner utility that runs in the Command line. Clonetool’s primary function is to clone a booted Mac OS X system and copy itself to another Volume on another disk drive. This can be used to transfer a system to a new disk drive or backup your current system to an external drive or 2nd hard disk drive. It was created for Developer Transition type Mac Systems running on x86 hardware.

  • Hello,
Thanks for posting some info about Clonetool. The software program is for x86 PCs running Mac OS X and also PowerPCs. I haven’t been able to test it on an Intel based Mac, as I don’t own one.
Anyways, I would like to point out that Clonetool has many uses. Currently, I use it mostly for software development and testing. Ever install a beta software program and wish you could role your system back? With Clonetool this is makes it possible. Provided that you backed up using Clonetool prior. Clonetool works best with 2 hard drives as it only takes 20 minutes to backup a completely installed system. Other uses are: Your main harddrive died or is running flakely. With Clonetool, you can format the HD that you are having problems with and re-image it within 20 minutes. Never in my life, have I’ve been able to install OS X, all my Applications, and restore my data in 20 minutes. It usually takes 4-6 hours to rebuild a complete production system.
Only have 1 hard drive? Clonetool also works with externel USB and Firewire drives. USB/Firewire combo drives are highly recommended.
Coming in January, Clonetool will take on a whole new form with an attractive GUI called, Hatchery. http://art5dog.com/Clonetool.png
    Cheers,
    Goodtime
