RIAA representative suggests to student to drop out of school to pay RIAA

How true this is, we don’t know for sure, but one thing is certain. It sure SOUNDS like the usual RIAA tactics. Now we understand that you’re trying to protecting profits, but are you also trying to hurt our economic future? These students that are “stealing your music” now, eventually become the productive work force in half a decade.

But as much as I tried to argue that I was in as unique a situation as someone with medical expenses, there was no getting through. Bowie even had the audacity to say, “In fact, the RIAA has been known to suggest that students drop out of college or go to community college in order to be able to afford settlements.”

And we don’t even want to know what you hippies were doing back in the hay day. Drop the act, and get a grip. We understand the artists need to get paid. But there are also artists out there that are trying new methods of getting there. If there is anything to be learned in this interaction, it’s that you never ever (in this country) threaten someone’s education for sake of paying for a settlement. It just looks bad. For you.
