Another case of media using terms that they don’t know anything about. This isn’t difficult. Really. Wikipedia has an entry on leetspeak. IMspeak is what people use for instant messenger.
leetspeak derived from hackers speaking to each other in the underground culture, while IMspeak is purely acronym based. TDTM? BYOB? Come on.
Just goes to show, it doesn’t take a genius to do the right research, but media types don’t even go that far. Definitely not 1337. However, most definitely n00b.
