Why can’t we get cellular courtesy devices instead of jammers?

Disclaimer: My employer is a cellular infrastructure provider but these are just my thoughts and opinions and do not represent my employer in any shape or form.
This is an interesting, but I’d rather not have a movie theater jam a cellular call for sake of safety and I find it absolutely horrendous that there has been no cellular infrastructure provider that hasn’t developed a “courtesy” device.
Obviously there is a niche market to be wanted here, but believe me when I say going up the chain within a infrastructure business provider is no picnic. I came up with this idea back in 2004, and you still don’t see anyone pursuing it. Hello? Anyone at CTIA listening?
You have restaurants, movie theaters, art theatres, symphonies, opera houses, ballets, galleries and all sorts of other venues that would and ARE being devastated by inconsiderate buffoons that take their call right there in the venue and are loud and obnoxious. Jamming the signal is WRONG and a safety hazard. But if there was a device that would allow 911 calls, and repeat the signal back out to the towers, then the device would definitely be worth while. Perhaps a “force to vibrate” mode, although that would require an act of Congress to revolutionize a single feature for sake of courtesy.
It’s strange that in the end, people have to enforce people to be courteous and enforce good manners because some people either won’t learn these simple concepts, can’t learn them, or don’t just care in general.
Be it as it may, there is definitely money to be had in this business. It might take considerable work across the industry, but it sure beats the alternative of cellular jammers being purchased and put in these establishments.

  • The FCC has noted the jammers are illegal and have begun the fine($$$) process for companies that sell these devices.
Personnally, I prefer the Super Soaker as a way to discourage cell phone use.

  • The article from Mobile Tracker is stating that the movie theaters are petitioning for an exception in their case to run cellular jammers.
Personally, I’d like to smack the people that talk on their phone who won’t step outside. If it’s important, then it can be outside of the venue or at least the vicinity where it’s not “quiet”. I personally don’t like it when people’s phones ring during a meal, but that’s just the I am.

This is just another reason to save up and buy that big screen you’ve been wanting and sign-up at netflix. Watch all you want from the comfort of your couch and eat CHEAP popcorn that isn’t so salty that you drain the city’s water supply to eat it.

  • i like the people that do it in class.. some girl behind me in my psychology class decided it would be a good idea to break up with her boyfriend in the back of our 200 person lecure class… that was a good idea… i was on my laptop in front of her and wanted to type “GET OFF YOUR PHONE” on my screen and leave it so she could see it 🙂
