If you haven’t heard already, Guilford County government is imposing a hiring freeze.

Aparantly the Guilford County Government has imposed another hiring freeze, citing an $18 million dollar deficit in next years budget that is currently being prepared.

  • Just FYI, Guilford County is a separate entity from Greensboro (City). The $18 million deficit is likely a larger amount in proportion the the greater than $330 million budget that Greensboro City runs on each year.
I wonder where that $18mil went? I mean, they knew it was coming, it’s not like it just popped out of thin air. I wonder if it has anything to do with “non-profit” orgs that keep asking for money (a.k.a. taxes that you and I pay).
If you end up with an $18mil deficit then that is almost always a sign of poor planning. Plain and simple. I have some insider info on how local govn’t works and I can tell you that it is NOT a well oiled machine in any way, EXCEPT when it comes to SPENDING money. They’ll just raise your taxes to account for the difference… you know they’re not going to STOP funding any of those useless projects. Why? Because that’d make too much sense.
Hmm… that was mean. Maybe I shouldn’t post it.

  • lol. County doesn’t give money to nonprofits. That comes from private foundations. 😉 No taxes involved. As far as the poor planning, damn straight.
But what do you expect from government. It’s full of it. I still want to know why the County Commissioners “deserved” their huge 2x their past pay “raise” and why the Superintendent and the top six of his staff make six figures (superintendent makes close to quarter mil).
