Superbowl XL a disappointment because of bad calls

Superbowl XL: Steelers over Seahawks. 21 to 10.
Bill Leavy, head referee hosed the complete game. Every single call was against the Seahawks including the key plays. In three of four plays, only one was overturned because there was no way to call it in favor of the Steelers.
What’s most amusing is that with the last minute left, the Seahawks would have been down just four points if Bill Leavy and his staff was being fair about his calls. If I was Holmgren, I’d be pissed as hell.
This game would have been one to remember, even if the Seahawks lost 21 to 17. Both teams played great plays.
The truly screwy calls.

  • First quarter: Offensive pass interference for Seahawks instead of TD. (ABC Sports crew consisting of former players even called that a truly messed up call).
  • Ben Roethlisberger’s TD in second quarter. That didn’t even come close to the line. You can tell, in any scenario. If you don’t believe me… blow up the picture and extend the goal lines vertically.
  • Third quarter. Fumble by Hasslebeck. (was overturned after a challenge by the Hawk’s bench was called)
  • Fourth quarter. Tackle by Hasslebeck brought a 15 yard penalty. Even John Madden was amazed at that call. For a quarterback, it’s totally legit to tackle below the knees, it’s just not legit for a blocker.

I’m truly disappointed in the NFL referees. The Seahawks were fighting an uphill battle for minute one with the “neutral ground” being 3500 miles away from home. Even if the Panthers had won against the Seahawks, they would have met the same fate due to the ridiculous rulings of the referees. I hope they get someone that can actually call plays next year because Bill Leavy and his gang of seven sure turned this Superbowl into a disappointment to watch.
UPDATE (12:27PM): Seattle Times has posted some comments by the fans. Amusingly enough, over half the comments come from outside the Seattle area from those that have no love for either team. Verdict? Bad officiating. It definitely reinforces why I don’t pay attention to football anymore. It’s about as fixed as WWE and at least WWE acknowledges it.
UPDATE (2/19): ESPN Sportsnation poll. Gee. ESPN readers overall voted against the 14 point contention? I’m sure there’s some logic to that. Wait, there’s more. Foxsports Kevin Hinch that predicted the Steeler win. He won’t even vouch for the Steeler win because of the officiating.

Seahawks fans , the season is over, get on with your life already! The steelers had a bad game and still won, quit making excuses, the steelers had all the momentum prior to that interception and would of run away with the game at that point, that’s how you got your one and only touchdown remember?

  • Again, like I said before, if you bothered to read the post…
The momentum was driven by the bad calls. Period.
Regardless of scoring. Btw, I find it absolutely amusing that Pete and dave are the same person, trying to act like multiple person(s).

That’s like saying you couldn’t outrace a Mercedes in a Honda because it costs more. Get a clue.

This is for you asshole steelers fans.
Big Ben’s “td” was not a td. Look at the replay, his knees were down prior to the ball “breaking the plane”, which it never did anyway. Regardless, while we’re watching the replay, take notice of the fullback, number 37 I believe. Notice how he is clearly holding a defender? You dont? Then you must be a fucking steeler fan. He has one arm on the front of the defender, and one arm on his back. That’s holding boys and girls. Plain and simple. It doesnt matter if it is accidental(it wasn’t) or not. That is holding. The hell of it is, if the defender wasnt held, he would have sacked Big Ben long before he made it to the line of scrimmage.
The OPI call: Watch the god damn replay. The defender initiated contact. And was actually guilty of committing DPI, which would in fact been a free play for the seahawks. Sure, the OPI was a fair call IN AND OF ITSELF, but it was fucking ticky tack. Something the the steelers were guilty of all game long, and weren’t flagged for it. But that’s a moot point since the defender committed DPI first and rendered the OPI call moot.
You steeler fans can slice it anyway you want to, but the fact remains that the officials won the game for you. Any true steelers fans, not you fucking johnny come latelies and lukewarm fuckers, cannot be happy with that “win”. You can’t hold your head up high and say that the steelers won that game. It’s a goodamn travesty.
Also, for the pittsburgh fans that tell us to get over it, i have to tell you something: FUCK YOU
The Seahawks have never been to the supewrbowl before, after 30 years of dissapointment, we finally made it. And to have the game stolen from us, thats something we cant forget. And I bet there our some oakland fans that remember games from the 70’s that might sympathize with us too.

One issue no one has touched on is the fact that the head ref is a texas aggies alumni and seattle and the aggies are in court over the 12th man issue in which texas a&m; is going to lose so leavy decided to put his 2 cents in prior to the court decision, ie. screw the hawks and maybe they will back off on 12th man issue. HAWKS WILL RETURN!!!!!!!

Yup , and the squeeler fans musta thought it was a foward pass in the snow . How sad , my personal satisfaction comes from knowing coward and asthma boy really know how obvious it was ! They will have to live with that forever. Hell, my 17 year old daughter was like ” Dad , why do the refs want the steelers to win ??” Anybody remember the world series between the heavily favored A’s and the hapless Reds. Yea , seems the mob bet like 30 million at 1,000 to 1 on the sorry ass Reds to sweep !!
