Forget WiMax… let’s dream in xMax

It’s amazing what sort of new things come out in wireless technologies. XG Technology has just had their xMax wireless transmitter approved by the FCC. Having demo’d a 3.67Mbp link for a whopping distance of 18 miles, you wonder why they don’t care for WiMax. The name of the game is in the power transmission. They accomplished the feat above with only 35 mW of power.
35mW. Your average WiFi card runs at 30mW and many routers are now at 100mW to just contend with 100-150ft of transmission. That is a significant increase in transmission per unit of power.
Boy. WiFi is so 1997. Let’s bring in the new age of wireless porn with xG as a featured star.
