Bruce Davis: Still not blogging – Part Deux

It’s the end of February of 2006. Bruce Davis, the ex-Chairman of the Guilford County Commissioners and one that I dislike due to these acts that we the taxpayers are paying for, still doesn’t have time to blog even though he’s being paid an outrageous amount of money to represent Guilford County. Heck, I as a taxpayer, am paying for his “roaming” cellular bills.
Apparently there just isn’t enough time to blog with his first, and last post dated Oct. 21st of 2005. There were many follow-ups, such as this one in November and this one in December.
This is exactly why I dislike politicians. Everything is a farce when it comes to reaching out and communicating to the people. I’m also fairly amused that back during that time with the whole cellular fiasco, there were three people with County paid cell phones. Mr. Davis, Mr. Alston, and Ms. Coleman. Currently, Mr. Alston doesn’t have his cellular phone posted on the County Commissioners website (2/28/06). Did he turn it in? Anyone?
This is also the reason I love my city Councilwoman, Sandy Carmany. Communication galore! Talk about not shirking responsibilities. Bravo Sandy!
So when are we as a community going to get down to business and oust these people that supposedly represent “us” but voted to give RFMicro $800k+ as the fourth incentives package without paying any attention to what we have to say? I’m not one to get corrupted by the political realm, but there are others that are strong enough to withstand the pressure. Hoggard? Wanna give it a shot? It pays well.

  • You’re focusing on Bruce beacuse he peeked out from behind the curtain only to retreat. But he’s reall no more deserving of your attention that the scores of other public officials who would rather not engange in public discource.

Politicians don’t dare to blog for the simple reason that in blogs you hang your opinions out there for anyone to applaud or criticize. Criticism is hard for some to take; this is especially so with people of massive egos. Politicians usually have such massive egos. Dear Bruce would be slaughtered on a blog and he knows it. Ms. Carmany on the other hand is a sweet lady who tries very hard to inform the public. As Roch suggests we could hear from some others. I have e-mailed them and suggested a blog; maybe if enough of us do they will get up the nerve to give it a try.

  • I don’t think threatening someone with a slaughter is a way to encourage participatation. Sandy Carmany is popular and respected because the respects her readers and discusses issues in a level-headed manner. Any politician who is capapble of the same should welcome the ability to communicate to a wide audience on his or her schedule the way that blogging provides.

  • Slaughter is good. Haven’t you ever seen Judge Dredd? In any case, people don’t want to open a can of worms. Mainly because of contraversial topics and skeletons in the closet.
Amusingly enough, I pick on him mainly because he thought it was okay with the whole cellular thing. Anyone that thinks that’s okay deserves to get picked on by the public. Especially cynical me. And if they don’t like it, I’ll just forward them to jw and she can give them a piece of her mind. ^_^

Darkmoon, You weren’t reading my blog last fall but I was always hitting Bruce and Skip and any of the others who felt holding a public office’ was a license to steal.
Roch101 respect goes two ways, if a person is given no respect they certainly will not return it. Our politicians who serve their own interests after being elected to office after promises to work for the public certainly don’t respect us so they are not worthy of our respect.
And, my statement about putting one’s self on the line in a blog where any and all can disagree in any manner they see fit is just part of blogging. It is nothing to take personally and certainly offers a person room to grow. The only time offense should be taken is if you are able to identify a “bully”. In which case you simply stand up to them and they will go away.
