Air Force retiring B-52s early to buy Raptors

Inside Defense is reporting that the Air Force is forcing early retirement on a major portion of the fleet to save money to buy more of the F-22A fighter jets. This includes half of the B-52 bomber fleet, and all of the U-2 and F-117.
Interestingly enough, they want to replace the B-52 SOJ (radar jammers) with smaller antennas which begs to question if the original was of any use to begin with (why we spent billions pushing that project) or if it’s adequate enough to replace the current stand-off jammer. Another update shows that this has happened in the past with the A-10 Tank Killer lineup.
Amazing how things just kind of repeat themselves in the past don’t they. What we don’t understand is why they’re getting rid of bombers and replacing them with fighters. Bombers are an integral part of the Air Force as much as fighter squadrons. As far as we can tell anyways.
