MTV backs AMP’d mobile service

And I ask WHY? If you haven’t seen the commercials yet, they’re absolutely stupid. They don’t make any sense at all and they’re trying to sell this to our youth? Good luck. First impressions are usually key, and they just broke their legs right out of the gate. The whole “Try not to die.” motto is absolutely….hilari… no…. stupid.
And MTV goes and puts $50 million behind this mobile service. With that type of advertising, I wouldn’t give them 10 cents. The only compliment they get here is a decent website. Unfortunately, that’s not going to strike with the younger consumers as much as how sucky the commercials are and will probably force them in droves to Verizon or T-Mobile.

I THINK THE COMMERCIALS ARE FUNNY AND VERY DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS. THE COMMERCIALS SHOULD BE AIRED, BEACAUSE IT IS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT TO SEE! IF PEOPLE NOTICE THE COMMERCIALS OTHER THAN FLIP TO A DIFFERENT CHANNEL, THEY MIGHT LIKE THE PRODUCT. IF YOU HAVE A GREAT PRODUCT AND A GREAT ADVERTISEMENT, THE PEOPLE MOST LIKELY WILL COME TO THE SENSE BUY ONE. I KNOW I AM ONLY A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL, BUT I AM THE ONE WATCHING THE SHOWS AND ADVERTISEMENTS ON MTV. THE WHOLE REASON I AM POSTING THIS IS BECAUSE I WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR THE COMMERCIAL TO WATCH ONLINE, BUT I CAME OVER THIS AND STARTED READING IT.

  • So somehow or another, you can tie “Try not to die” with a cellular service? Umm.. okay.
Great product? AMP’d is no different from Alltel, Verizon, or Sprint. It’s a basic cellular service just like any other CDMA based service.
The PR is terrible. From the about page: “Third generation technology?” It’s called 3G, not third generation. It’s like WiFi doesn’t stand for wireless fidelity.
The most amusing of about your comment? A 14 yr old still watching MTV. When I was 14, I suppose MTV was cool because of the actual music videos and Aeon Flux at night. Not so much anymore unless you happen to love Real World, Road Rules and some other reality TV. That’s why FUSE has pulled higher ratings and grown as fast as it has in the last two years. They provide what MTV used to have in the beginning.
