Did Apple sabotage the ROKR?

The Apple Blog hypothesizes that Apple mandated the 100 song limit on the ROKR to make consumers wary of buying mp3 cell phones. This would drive iPod sales while letting competitors take a second look at the hammered mp3 phone market.
While that might be the case, Motorola still came up with one “ugly” phone. They would have been better off with using the SLVR/RZR design or even just something less brick-like. While on the off-chance that Apple did bother to reinforce its dominant power in the portable music arena, Motorola definitely didn’t help itself any with that design scheme. If anything, both corporations were to blame on the ROKR’s lackluster performance.
