Greed 2.0

Record labels are now chasing after Google, for giving them a cut of the profits when someone downloads say….. “Michael Jackson’s Greatest Hits” off of Google Video. They believe that because they own the content, they should have a part of the proceeds to any medium the content runs through.
This is the offensive that the labels are performing after Steve Jobs trashed their idea of pushing the 99 cent music even higher (labels get up to 70 cents already). After waving to Alana Davis (when Jay brought her to ConvergeSouth) and reading about her issues with the big labels and why she created her own label, I can totally understand why she quit having some large corporation promote her music. Maybe many more artists will start thinning of the ranks to show the big labels that they’re not worth it anymore.
