Google to hire coders for OpenOffice

In an effort to support open source software, Google is hiring programmers for the OpenOffice initiative.

Open-source software is good for young programmers, DiBona said, noting that it gives them real-world problems to solve and teaches them self-management skills.

Dang straight. And Google’s one of the few companies to actually hire for open source outside of the public’s scope on what their business is today. This is definitely something that makes them one of the most unique and worthwhile corporations to work for in the current software market.
