County Commissioners defensive about cell phone usage

Interesting that this is one of the few times I will have to say that Billy Yow is onto something.
Sorry to hear that Bruce Davis, Chairman of the County Commissioners has a problem with Yow delving into his county cell phone usage.

“I’m sure I’ve made a call home, yeah,” Davis said. “And I’ll continue making calls home, as long as I’m working for the county and I’m out on the road and I’m trying to check in with my home.”

Okay. Here’s the deal. Knowing that I have a corporate phone policy currently, I’ll venture a guess that the county has one too. If there isn’t one, then I would seriously consider putting one in place. You don’t like it? Tough. And I doubt that calling home is like the $5/month extra PCS-to-PCS plan that my corporation uses.

  1. County needs to track personal call percentages. This is done via scrutinizing wireless bills that the county pays anyways.
  2. Anything personal percentages over “X” percentage will result in a termination of that county phone.
  3. Phones are a privilege, not a right.

I don’t understand what the hell Bruce Davis is on, but I don’t like it. Roaming charges? I’m on a national corporate plan and I don’t even incur roaming charges on my corporation. AND IT’S MY JOB TO WORK ON CELLULAR SERVICE. Another commissioner did pipe in to say that Billy Yow didn’t want his citizens to contact him, and that’s why he was making a fuss about cellular service. I’m terribly sorry, but having worked in the business…. “uhh no.” I have plenty to say and I’m not contacting my county commissioner on their cell phone to do so. Actually… you know what?
Someone pass me their cell phone numbers. Since I’m a citizen, I’m going to contact them at all hours of the night. Why? I’m usually up, and they’re the ones that said citizens can “contact them” right?
Maybe we should dock this out of their recent pay raise. Hah.
