Six Apart to buy LiveJournal

BoingBoing reports that Six Apart is buying LiveJournal for a undisclosed amount of stocks and cash. That will bring their user base to 6.5 million users under LiveJournal, Typepad, and Moveable Type. Competition remains: Google’s Blogger and Microsoft MSN Spaces.

Personal note: The only thing that I like about this is, nothing. Doesn’t phase my blogging one bit. But it DOES tell me that blogging is becoming a huge media fad since it is spreading like wildfire into the news streams. Won’t be long before CNN gets wind of this one.

  • I want javascript! I want a counter! Who do I see about these issues?

  • Heh. Counters are easy, seems like a bunch of people have them on their blogs, not sure if livejournal supports you messing with it though. Javascript, no clue. You’d have to hack Livejournal. Looks like it’s written in perl, the same as Moveable Type and Typepad. Apparently you guys are getting the “trackback” feature and some better templating.
