Yahoo brings dynamic mapping to its services

Yahoo is beefing up their mapping services by bringing in real-time traffic data. This is something that news services have done for years, but not one national service has attempted to overlay this data on top of their current maps.

..Yahoo!’s dynamic maps draw on real-time traffic information from metropolitan transportation departments and private providers, including embedded road sensors, traffic cameras, police scanners, and traffic helicopters. Yahoo declined to identify the exact sources of its traffic data.

CNN covers it here.

Personal note: Another great technology slow in the making. Now if only people linked in GPS with it so you could drive AROUND the traffic accident and re-plot a new course. That might be too smart of an idea though…
